Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). This class of medications inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and-2 which are the enzymes responsible for producing prostaglandins (PGs). PGs contribute to inflammation and pain signaling. Diclofenac, like other NSAIDs, is often used as first line therapy for acute and chronic pain and inflammation from a variety of causes.

Diclofenac has been found to exert a pronounced analgesic effect in moderate and severe pain of non-rheumatic origin. Pain relief sets in within 15 to 30 minutes.1

In post-traumatic and post-operative inflammatory conditions, diclofenac rapidly relieves pain and reduces inflammatory swelling and postoperative wound oedema.
